The State of Florida carried the 2010 Florida Building Code forward to
the new recently adopted 2014 Florida Building Code (now Florida Law as
of June 30, 2015)...see below picture. Florida REQUIRES Retractable
Awnings to be able to withstand 115MPH 3-second wind gusts WHILE the
RETRACTABLE AWNING is in the OPEN & EXTENDED POSITION (2014 FBC Sec.
3105.5.1). Call the Florida Building Commission in Tallahassee, FL at
(850) 487-1824 to verify!
ONLY our BUZZMAN RETRACTABLE AWNINGS are certified and FL Hurricane Wind Code / Wind Load APPROVED for 115MPH 3-sec wind gusts while fully open & extended! BE LEERY of other company reps who talk only of other bldg codes or their Miami/Dade County approval...always ask to see documentation that shows their retractable awnings meet or exceed this FL Bldg Code (2014 FBC Sec. 3105.5.1). The much lower standard found in the Miami/Dade County Wind Code Approval bypasses the actual FL Bldg Code requirements and clearly shows that their much lighter weight, subpar, hollow-tube awning frame MUST be fully CLOSED & RETRACTED at winds of 45MPH and greater; if NOT, the company will VOID YOUR WARRANTY if their awning is ever left out in higher winds & damaged (even if left out by accident, in the event of a power failure & even when equipped with a wind sensor). They simply use this 'exception' to Florida law as a way OUT in the event their awning is damaged in 45+ MPH winds or heavy rain & thunderstorms...they call it "Owner Negligence" in their official Warranty documents.
AND this is just one of many reasons why Buzzman Retractable Awnings are superior to all the others and why customers who compare ALWAYS go with Buzzman! Click on the pictures below to see the real updated 2014 FBC & the other company's recent customer estimate sheet / contract showing they will void your warranty (highlighted & circled) ...
