WANT TO KNOW THE FACTS? What are the Florida Bldg Code - Wind Load Requirements for Retractable Awnings? We now must adhere to the 2014 Florida Building Code, so what does it say about Retractable Awnings? What about this "Miami/Dade County Hurricane Code Approval" often talked about & promoted by one other company? What does it all mean to the S FL homeowner? Don't be fooled by other companies so-called hurricane code approvals and YouTube videos showing their retractable awning tested in high winds while their awning is at a 0 degree angle with hurricane force winds hitting it straight on at a 0 degree angle...that NEVER happens and it's NOT a real-world test!  It's all smoke and mirrors!!  DON'T be MISLEAD by a blurry "smoke & mirrors" sales & marketing tactic intended to confuse, mislead, & deceive consumers...the Miami/Dade Code Approved retractable awning documents state it MUST be closed at 45MPH+ winds while IN FACT, the latest Florida Bldg Code and ALL S. The State of Florida carried the 2010 Florida Building Code forward to the new recently adopted 2014 Florida Building Code (now Florida Law as of June 30, 2015)...see below picture. Florida REQUIRES Retractable Awnings to be able to withstand 115MPH 3-second wind gusts WHILE the RETRACTABLE AWNING is in the OPEN & EXTENDED POSITION (2014 FBC Sec. 3105.5.1). Call the Florida Building Commission in Tallahassee, FL at (850) 487-1824 to verify!

They simply use this 'exception' to Florida law as a way OUT in the event their awning is damaged in 45+ MPH winds or heavy rain & thunderstorms...they call it "Owner Negligence" in their official Warranty documents.
